Senior Financial Accountant & Internal Auditor (Trucking)

Description

Location: In Office
Salary: $80,000 – $100,000 (commensurate with experience)
Status: Full-Time (starting with 3 month trial period)

The Opportunity
We are an established transportation company in Ontario looking for a sharp, "investigative" Senior Accountant to take full ownership of our internal financial operations. You will manage a bookkeeper and work alongside an external CPA for year-end. We are looking for the "Financial Watchdog" to help get things in order.
If you are someone who enjoys digging into data to find hidden costs, streamlining messy processes, and providing clear financial guidance to leadership, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities
Full-Cycle Oversight: Take over daily bank reconciliations, cash flow management, and Accounts Payable (AP) oversight.
Internal Audit & Leak Detection: Conduct deep-dive audits into operational spend (maintenance, fuel, tires, and vendor contracts) to identify overcharges and inefficiencies.
System Optimization: Manage and refine our QuickBooks Online (QBO) environment to ensure accurate "Unit Level" reporting (tracking profitability by truck and by lane).
Financial Reporting: Produce weekly "Financial Scorecards" and monthly P&L/Balance Sheets present findings to leadership and suggest actionable improvements.
Process Improvement: Identify manual bottlenecks and implement automated solutions to improve department efficiency.
Compliance Support: Ensure data readiness for HST filings, WSIB, and IFTA reporting in coordination with our external partners.

What You Bring
Industry Experience: 3-5 years of accounting experience specifically within the Trucking or Logistics sector.
Degree: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is a must.
Professional Designation: A CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation is highly preferred.
Expert-level proficiency in QuickBooks Online and advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs).
The Audit Mindset: You don't just "pay bills"; you verify them against work orders and warranties.
You are a self-starter who can walk into a department, identify what's broken, and fix it without hand-holding.
Solid understanding of financial auditing, account reconciliation, and variance analysis.
Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational and analytical skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
High level of integrity and professionalism.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
