Metal Props Fabricator
Description
Reporting to the Manager of Arts & Entertainment, this is a temporary position working with The Butchart Gardens Maintenance team to create and maintain props for the summer Firework shows and the Magic of Christmas display.
The successful candidate will be required to:
• Working under the supervision of the Arts & Entertainment Manager and Welding/Fabrication Specialist, create or adapt firework props using existing props, photos and videos as guides
• Support the creation of a props database with drawings, measurements and updated photographs
• During the summer firework season, ensure weekly inspections and maintenance of all firework props
• Assist in the creation of Christmas displays including large scale metal sculptures
• Use power tools and hand tools as necessary
• Use welders and associated equipment
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
• Effective listener and ability to precisely follow instructions
• Good communication skills – written and verbal
• Show complete attention to detail and accuracy
• Positive attitude and a genuine desire to be a team player
• Excellent safety record
• Good physical condition and ability to do heavy lifting
• Comfortable working at moderate heights and over and near water
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Flexibility in scheduling hours
• Valid BC Drivers License
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Creative problem-solving abilities
• Ability to operate hand tools and power tools
WORK SEASON
This is a seasonal position, offering 40 hours of work per week from March until December 1, 2026. Shifts will be primarily Monday to Friday, 7:00am-3:00pm. Occasional overtime, evening and weekend work may be required. Wage starting from $31.26. Renumeration will be commensurate with the level of responsibility, qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Please note that this position is contingent upon successful completion of a physical assessment.
