I found this baggage tag metal detecting at an old Whitby, Port Perry & Lindsay Railroad crossing north of Brooklin Ontario. The New York Central Railroad was active from 1853 – 1968 and ‘SUS.BDG' stands for Suspension Bridge.
Specifically, the Niagara Railway Suspension Bridge which was located down river from Niagara Falls NY and connected the US to Canada from 1855 – 1897. Although this tag doesn't have a maker's mark, I've seen other tags with the same 'bilobate' shape dating from 1850 – 60.
I will also include the Western Eastern Treasure Magazine article that this tag was featured in December 2018.
Feel free to email or text with questions to 905-410-4088.
Thanks, Dave
