Looking for Red Seal Chef, First & Second Cooks

Location: Northern Canada (Remote Community Placement)
Position Type: Full-Time, Rotational or Seasonal (depending on contract)
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced, organized, and self-motivated Chef to manage all aspects of daily meal preparation and kitchen operations in a Northern community.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and serving three daily buffet-style meals, either independently or with another chef.
Responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, and ensuring food safety compliance in all areas of food handling and storage.
Key Responsibilities:
Meal Preparation & Service:
• Plan, prepare, and serve three nutritious buffet-style meals daily for 15 - 80 residents and/or staff.
• Create menus that balance variety, dietary needs, and available food inventory.
• Ensure meals are prepared on time and presented in a clean, appealing manner.
• Maintain portion control and minimize food waste.
Kitchen & Dining Hall Maintenance:
• Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, food preparation areas, and the dining hall daily.
• Ensure compliance with public health, sanitation, and safety standards.
• Perform regular deep-cleaning of kitchen and dining facilities.
Inventory & Ordering:
• Manage and monitor kitchen inventory and supplies.
• Receive grocery and supply orders; check for quality, quantity, and accuracy.
• Properly label, rotate, and store all food and supplies in compliance with food safety and WHMIS guidelines.
• Maintain accurate inventory records and submit supply orders as needed
Qualifications:
• Culinary certification or Red Seal designation preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a commercial or institutional kitchen (experience in remote or camp environments is an asset).
• Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and inventory management practices.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Physically capable of standing for long periods and performing light to moderate lifting.
Working Conditions:
• Remote northern location; must be comfortable working in isolated environments.
• Rotational schedules may apply (e.g., 14 days on / 14 days off, 21 days on / 10 days off).
• Housing and meals are provided while on site.
