Farm General Operations & Mechanicla Labourer
Description
London based multigenerational mixed farming operation requires a dedicated part time (leading to full time) farm hand for cash cropping and broiler chicken operation.
Duties include (but not limited to):
· monitor equipment and machinery operations to maintain, detect malfunctions, repair as required within scope of knowledge/skill set
· general shop duties including performing repairs to farm and lawn machinery as required including assessing part requirements and inventory
• large scale ethical animal husbandry including barn preparation, maintenance/sanitation and any required culling
• monitor, adjust and report/document daily findings of broiler chicken facilities
· operate farm equipment (older and new model GPS equipped) and yard machinery to work in the field and on farm grounds. Duties may include various applications of field work such as planting, spraying, spreading, harvesting and hauling.
• maintain safe practices around equipment, tools and livestock at all times
Requirements & Skills:
Minimum requirement of high school diploma (OSSD) or equivalent. Bachelor’s Degree in related agricultural or mechanical field is an asset.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar agricultural role.
Excellent proficiency in oral and written English is a non-negotiable requirement.
Basic farm knowledge, mechanical inclination/knowledge, clear communication skills, ability to multitask, work in a (sometimes) fast paced environment, strong organization skills required.
No prior criminal record.
Minimum G(2) license required. AZ license is an asset.
Permanent Resident status with valid work permit or Canadian citizenship. Other applicants will not be considered.
Willingness to take direction and learn new skills.
Suitable candidates must be able to work well both independently and as a team alongside the owner/other employees, with a committed collaborative effort to the betterment of the farm.
Must be available to work days, variable evenings and some weekends due to weather constraints for field operations.
Your own reliable transportation is required.
Compensation:
Hourly wage determined by experience, education and skill set with room to increase renumeration based upon performance within the first year.
Potential for long term full time contract employment upon completion of training and favourable performance appraisal.
