Are you an experienced Journeyperson Carpenter who enjoys leading by example, supporting crews, and keeping work moving safely and efficiently on site?
Synergy Projects is looking for a Lead Hand Carpenter to support our Site Superintendent on commercial construction project in Wainwright, Alberta. In this role, you’ll take the lead on complex carpentry tasks, guide apprentices, help coordinate daily activities, and contribute to the overall productivity and quality of the job site.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced Journeyperson who is ready for more responsibility and interested in growing into future supervisory roles.
What You’ll Do
- Take the lead on structural, architectural, and finish carpentry tasks including framing, formwork, stairs, backing, temporary structures, and building envelope tie‑ins.
- Provide on‑the‑job guidance, mentoring, and support to apprentice carpenters and other crew members.
- Assist Foremen/Superintendents with coordinating daily tasks, sequencing work, and ensuring crews stay productive.
- Help maintain high workmanship standards and ensure work is completed according to drawings, specifications, and building codes.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and install wood, steel, concrete, and other building materials.
- Build foundations, floor systems, walls, roofs, hoarding, and temporary structures.
- Install doors, frames, trim, cabinetry, flooring, hardware, and architectural finishes.
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding, concrete forms, barricades, and ramps.
- Operate equipment such as skid steers, telehandlers, MEWPs, and other mobile power equipment (where qualified).
- Assist with demolition, drilling, excavating, grading, and site cleanup as required.
- Verify elevations, rough openings, rebar placement, layout accuracy, and tie‑ins.
- Take photos, check work against drawings, and support QA/QC documentation.
- Complete FLHAs, follow safe work procedures, and promote a strong safety culture.
- Ensure proper PPE is used and report unsafe conditions to site leadership.
Required
- Journeyperson Carpenter certification (or equivalent experience).
- Typically 4 years of progressive carpentry experience with proven ability to take on leadership tasks.
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and safe handling procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
- Experience guiding apprentices or junior carpenters.
- WHMIS & CSTS09 training.
- Reliable transportation, consistent punctuality, and readiness to work at the start of each shift.
- Must be able to pass a 50 lbs Fitness Test
- Candidates must successfully complete a Federal Government security screening prior to working on site.
Assets
- Additional safety or equipment certifications.
- Experience operating materials‑handling equipment and elevated work platforms.
- Strong problem‑solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
