1968 Pontiac Firebird
Description
Restored 1968 Pontiac Firebird 400 CID Convertible with a 3-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 automatic transmission.
The car was acquired by a previous owner in 2007 and underwent a meticulous frame-off restoration over a five-year period from 2008 to 2013. The next owner, from 2013 to 2020, enhanced the vehicle by balancing the engine and adding a raised intake manifold along with a 650 CFM carburetor, increasing the horsepower from the factory-rated 330 HP to approximately 365 370 HP (as stated by the previous owner). The current owner has had the car since October 2020 and has made thoughtful updates, including installing a replica radio with USB and Bluetooth functionality while maintaining a period-correct look, as well as adding a 4-core radiator to improve cooling.
This Firebird meets the minimum requirements for a numbers matchingin. designation, with the original chassis VIN matching the engine block stamping, and the transmission tag indicating 1968. The rear axle appears to be from a 1969 Firebird. The restoration was completed with close attention to factory specifications, including the Solar Red exterior, white convertible top, and black parchment interior, all consistent with the original Pontiac GM build sheet.
Documentation shows that fewer than 10,000 miles have been driven since the restoration was completed. The vehicle had approximately 91,000 miles in 2007, 92,900 miles following restoration in 2013, 96,900 miles at the time of purchase by the current owner in 2020, and currently reads approximately 100,050 miles as of September 2025.
The car is well-equipped with power windows, power brakes, power steering, power antenna, and a power convertible top. Additional features include a tilt steering wheel, wood-rimmed steering wheel, center console with gear shifter and removable armrest, Rally II style wheels, a 2.5-inch dual stainless steel exhaust system, hood-mounted tachometer on the 400 hood, and a space-saver spare tire in the trunk. The sale includes all available restoration and maintenance receipts dating back to 2008, along with several service and maintenance manuals, both original and reproduced.
