Job Opportunity: Welder – Warkentin Fabricating Inc.
Warkentin Fabricating Inc. is seeking a motivated and reliable individual to join our team as a Welder. This is a hands-on, diverse role ideal for someone who enjoys staying active and contributing to both shop and field welding operations.
Responsibilities
• Quality Fabrication: Perform high-quality welding on barges, pontoons, spud pockets, and components for heavy civil construction.
• Technical Execution: Fit, tack, and weld components according to drawings and production standards.
• Blueprint Literacy: Read and interpret fabrication blueprints, GA drawings, weld maps, and material lists.
• Standard Compliance: Ensure all welds meet CWB / CSA W59 standards and internal Quality Control (QC) requirements.
• Equipment Operation: Safely operate fabrication equipment, including cutting torches, grinders, ironworkers, saws, and overhead cranes.
• Project Collaboration: Work alongside the shop foreman, project managers, and crew leaders to complete builds on schedule.
• Custom Projects: Complete custom fabrication including frames, railings, docks, platforms, and structural steel assemblies.
• Maintenance & Safety: Maintain a clean, organized work area and strictly follow all safety procedures.
Requirements
• Experience: Proven welding experience in a fabrication or heavy steel environment, specifically with thick-plate steel (1/4" to 1") and large structures.
• Technical Proficiency: Skilled in GMAW (MIG) and FCAW (Flux-core) welding processes.
• Drafting Knowledge: Strong ability to read and understand fabrication drawings and weld symbols.
• Certifications: CWB Certified Welder (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, or equivalent) is considered a strong advantage but not required.
• Physical Capabilities: Ability to handle heavy materials and work in various positions (vertical, overhead, confined areas, etc.).
• Reliability: Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a punctual, independent work ethic.
• Environment: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.

• Steady Schedule: Full-time work, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM (some Saturdays as needed).
