The Appenzeller Spitzhauben is a rare, active, crested chicken breed from Switzerland, known for its distinctive V-shaped comb and feather "bonnet" (Spitzhauben). These hardy, alert birds are excellent foragers, good layers of white eggs, and thrive in free-range environments, though they are not suited for confinement. They are small to medium-sized, with the popular Silver Spangled variety featuring white feathers with black tips. West side of Calgary. $20 each.
