This study would involve paying attention to speech in audio segments and videos. During that time, we would record your brain activity with an EEG (electroencephalography).
Participants needed:
• Age 18-80
• Native English speaker or learned English before the age of 3
• Normal hearing
• No neurological or cognitive impairment
• Not currently taking medications for a major psychiatric disorder (e.g., depression, anxiety); or have alcohol or substance abuse
The visit will be in Sunnybrook Health and Sciences Center (2075 Bayview Ave.) and would be around 3 hours in length. This includes going over the consent form, recording and clean-up. During the session, you will listen to an audiobook while we record your brain activity using EEG.
EEG recording involves placing an EEG cap (similar to a swimming cap) on your head and will only measure the activity of your brain. It essentially uses similar technology as a cardiogram to measure your heart rate (known as EKG). EEG does involves placing water soluble gel on your head. Following completion of the session, we do provide towels, shampoo and a hair-dryer for you to get rid of the gel.
Lastly, you will be compensated with as $50 cash and $7 TTC fare or a 4-hour parking pass for your time.
